Chinese Fantasy Epic ‘8 Immortals’ in the Works
A big screen fantasy epic titled 8 Immortals, based on popular tales from Chinese mythology, will be the first U.S. project produced by China’s LeVision Pictures. This is just the beginning, according to LeVision, which is planning to bring together some of the best filmmakers in both the U.S. and China to create what they describe as “an expansive development slate.”
8 Immortals, an English language movie inspired by Chinese legends, is about a young boy who comes to realize that he is destined for amazing things in life.
The plan is for this to be the first installment in a large scale film franchise. LeVision is seeking a prominent Hollywood director for the project and wants to partner with a major U.S. studio. The script, based on a treatment by Jeremy Breslau, will also be written by Breslau, best known for the horror TV series AtomFilms Web Project. The movie will likely constitute a big break for the writer. It will be be his first feature film and his first high-profile production.
Despite Breslau’s paucity of credits, Simon Sun, EVP of LeVision Pictures USA, seems enthusiastic about working with the writer. Sun was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter saying: “Jeremy [Breslau] is not only immensely talented, but one of the few Hollywood writers with a genuine love for the depth and remarkable breadth of the Chinese folkloric tradition.”
