Allyson Felix Mentor Teens Through ACUVUE 1-DAY Contest
After earning an Olympic gold medal this summer in London, Allyson Felix is hard at work helping other athletes reach their goals. Recently, thanks to the ACUVUE 1-DAY Contest, one lucky winner was able to spend a day with the world champion sprinter. Felix knows how important good advice can be; she credits her own success to help she got from her mentor, Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
“When I was a teenager, I was lucky to have a world-class athlete mentor me,” says Felix. “It’s great to be working with ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses and to give back to other teens to help them get closer to their 1-DAY dreams. Achieving one dream is not an ending but a new beginning, and a mentor can instill the confidence to achieve it all.”
This was Felix’s second year as a celebrity mentor for the contest, in which teens submit videos describing their 1-DAY dream to ACUVUE ‘s YouTube channel. Who was Felix’s lucky 2012 mentee? She says, “My mentee’s name was Abigail. Her dream is to inspire young women to live a healthy lifestyle. So in order to accomplish this, she knew that first she had to learn what this exactly looked like and what she can do better.
“The biggest challenge for Abigail was she wasn’t sure what to do when in the gym exercising, so we tried to show her how to balance a workout program with things like cardio and bodyweight training. We also sat her down with a nutritionist to talk about little daily tips like keeping healthy snacks on hand, smaller more frequent meals and other things I do in my life.”
Eating healthy is a passion for Felix, so helping Abigail was a perfect opportunity for both mentor and mentee. STACK has great nutrition advice from Felix; check out our articles on Allyson Felix’s Big Olympic Indulgences and How Allyson Felix Fuels Up on Race Days.
