adidas Barricade 10th Anniversary
A few days before the start of the U.S. Open, adidas celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Barricade, the number-one- selling tennis shoe in America (more than four million pairs sold). Tennis stars Justine Henin, Ana Ivonovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and STACKlete Andy Murray were all in attendance as advocates for the iconic sneaker.
Murray, who won the U.S. Open Junior while wearing the Barricade 2, said, “pretty much everything I’ve done in tennis has been in the Barricade.” And of the latest Barricade, version 6.0, Henin remarked that the shoe keeps evolving in terms of lightness and foot support. “It keeps growing up,” she said.
While Henin and Tsonga are both recovering from injuries and unable to participate in the U.S. Open, Ivanovic is reported to be in top shape for play and excited to wear the new women’s Barricade. Murray has high hopes for the tournament and is aiming for a Grand Slam.
