MLB All-Star week got off to a hot start when both New Balance and adidas unveiled flashy new cleats that their respective players will be rocking during the Home Run Derby and the 2015 All-Star Game.
New Balance unveiled its 4040v3 cleat, featuring what the brand calls an engineered “drive zone” under the big toe—a result of multiple heat mapping tests with athletes, which showed most baseball players generate their power at the plate through the same area of the foot. The cleat, based on what New Balance calls “swagger meeting science,” also features a gold chrome sole and gold accents on the upper of the white and black iterations.
Chicago Cubs rookie phenom Kris Bryant, who is participating in the Home Run Derby, gets a customized pair of the adidas Afterburner 2.0 Uncaged Bear cleats, inspired by the Cubs mascot and featuring the Cubs blue, white and red coloring on the upper.
Tune in to both the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game to get your first look at both cleats.
