adidas recently introduced the official match ball for the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship (UEFA Euro 2012). When the tournament kicks off at The National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland on June 8, the Tango 12 will be flying around the pitch.
To come up with their current design, adidas revamped the Tango ball used in the 1980s by both FIFA and UEFA Euro. It features triangular panels thermally bonded for accurate flight and covered with grip texture to maximize ball control. The Tango 12 also has improved air retention and reduced water uptake, so play can continue regardless of weather conditions.
The Tango 12’s colors and style pay tribute to the championship host countries, Poland and Ukraine. The panels of the sleek and understated ball reflect the flags of the two host countries, whose most prominent colors are white, black, red, blue and yellow.
If you’d like to try the adidas Tango 12 official match ball, it’s available at Soccer.com and other retailers for $150. If that’s out of your price range, a replica of the ball, for use on artificial turf or grass, is also available—for $30.
