Adventure Drama ‘The Eagle Huntress’ Coming Soon
Set in the mountains of northwestern Mongolia, The Eagle Huntress is based on a true story. Narrated by Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), it follows Aisholpan, a nomadic 13-year-old Mongolian girl who struggles to defy the misogynistic conventions of her male-dominated world and become the first female eagle hunter in 2,000 years.
Of all the female empowerment films that have come out lately, this one is unique. It provides a glimpse into a little known culture and an ancient occupation, and it offers both excitement and adventure. In addition to the story itself, the movie features breathtaking visuals via aerial cinematography as well as more intimate footage.
One of the most compelling things about this picture is that it goes beyond Aisholpan’s fascinating journey to address themes that people all over the world can relate to, such as female empowerment, coming of age issues and the natural world.
The film’s tagline, “Watch One Girl’s Dream Take Flight,” conveys its inspiring message, which is even more powerful considering it plays out within a primitive culture whose people discourage Aisholpan’s ambition.
Newcomer Otto Bell produced and directed the film.
This is one of several big screen projects Daisy Ridley has been working on. She is set to star in a reimagining of Hamlet, titled Ophelia, and the fantasy thriller Kolma. The in-demand actress is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII, due out Dec. 15, 2017.
The Eagle Huntress hits theaters on Sept. 16.
