Tom Felton Stars in WWII Adventure ‘Against the Sun’
Popular actor Tom Felton, known on the big screen for the Harry Potter franchise and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will star as Tony Pastula in the harrowing World War II drama Against the Sun.
Based on an amazing true story, the movie centers on three U.S. Navy fliers who crash-land their torpedo bomber in the South Pacific during a scouting mission and are plunged into a terrifying ocean journey that tests them physically and emotionally. Adrift in a 4-foot-by-8-foot life raft with no food, water or supplies, the pilot, bombardier and radioman attempt to sail over 1,000 miles to safety. Enduring storms, shark attacks and starvation, they are forced to rely on one another despite the fact that they have not always been the best of friends.
Starring alongside Felton are Jake Abel (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) and Garret Dillahunt, best known for TV’s Raising Hope and the feature film 12 Years a Slave. The small cast also features newcomer Nadia Parra (Lost in Baja).
Directing the film is Brian Falk, whose credits include the crime syndicate documentary The Loomis Gang. Falk also served as one of the film’s producers and wrote the screenplay with collaborator Mark David Keegan.
In many ways, this story of wartime courage and endurance is similar to the Angelina Jolie-helmed drama Unbroken. Both are true life tales of survival against insurmountable odds, set against the backdrop of World War II.
Against the Sun will be released Jan. 23, 2015.
