Will ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Explore Electro’s Origin?
The forthcoming Amazing Spider-Man sequel may explore the origins of supervillain Electro.
Cinepop revealed last week that Sony announced the title of the forthcoming movie in Brazil as: Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro or the Menace of Electro. And an article posted on the film’s viral site, the Daily Bugle, suggests that an invention by Oscorp Industries was behind Electro’s creation. “Despite the outraged cries of protesters who have dogged the project since its inception, Oscorp Industries is set to flip the switch on the construction of an experimental hydroelectric power plant that could reshape New York’s power landscape,” reads the article, which also includes reactions from city residents.
The film is also expected to drop hints about the formation of the anti-hero supergroup Sinister Six. At least that’s what Jamie Foxx, who portrays Electro in the film, and Paul Giamatti, who plays the Rhino, have suggested in different interviews this year.
“There are several different villains in this movie, and some of them are more foreground and important. Jamie Foxx is and stuff. A couple of us are more hanging around the background, because I think there will be a bigger deal,” teased Giamatti during an interview with MTV.
Given the number of anti-heroes expected to pop up in Amazing Spider-Man 2 and ambitions for the universe going forward, it’s hard to imagine there will also be time to properly explore Electro’s origin. It’ll be interesting to see how deeply into his background Sony decides to delve.
Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theaters May 1, 2014.
