Amid COVID, The NFL Plays Every Day Of The Week
With the most unprecedented year we’ve seen, the NFL accomplished something that has never happened in league history. There has been an NFL game played every day of the week.
NFL fans are accustomed to watching their teams on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. Major TV rights and marketing deals are set in stone before the season starts, and all plan on those three days of NFL football. But this is a season that is playing through a pandemic, so nothing is guaranteed.
Every NFL team and its players have to be tested for COVID-19 daily, and if a player tests positive before a game, they don’t play. This has resulted in the NFL rescheduling games to ensure the safety of the players.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday are all days the NFL usually doesn’t have games take place.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13, and Dec. 8, the Bills and Titans, and Cowboys and Ravens played.
Wednesday, Dec. 2, was a week where multiple Ravens players tested positive for COVID, and the NFL pushed the game back in order to not postpone.
The NFL had its own Christmas present with the Vikings and Saints playing on Friday, Dec. 25. The first Friday Christmas game since 2009.
Finally is Saturday. A day primarily governed by college football. On Dec. 19, the NFL had two games played between the Bills and Broncos and Panthers and Packers.
Coming into this year and anticipating the struggles with COVID, the NFL had to administer a season where all 32 teams played the same amount of games. It just so happened that it would take rescheduling to uncharted territories.
