Ethier leads off his on-field speed training with a series of movement prep exercises, which help activate his muscles and joints and fire up his central nervous system. The stretches and movements in this series hit multiple muscle groups, especially in the lower body. The goal is to ramp up the intensity with each movement. The last part of the movement prep incorporates rapid response or plyometric exercises. Athletes' Performance coach Jon Barlow says, "With movement prep, we want to get the muscles firing at top speed and getting ready to transition to the movement workout."
