Looking to increase its brand awareness, Arizona State decided to switch from a partnership with Nike to one with adidas when its deal with the Beast of Beaverton expired earlier this month. And now, like clockwork, we get our first look at what adidas has created for the Sun Devils football team heading in to the 2015 season.
The stylized pitchfork has been the logo of the Sun Devils football team for a long time, and adidas decided to highlight the team’s new threads with that motif. The pitchfork has always appeared on the helmet, but now it’s featured on the pants as well. Plus, elements of the pitchfork are used as stripes on the shoulders of the jerseys. “ARIZONA STATE” is written across the chest of the uniforms, just above the numbers.
At the moment, it appears adidas has given ASU three colorways—a maroon top with gold pants, an all-white iteration, and an all-black alternate. Are they better than what Nike was offering in years past? Only time will tell. One thing is certain, though. ASU might have lower on Nike’s list of priorities, but adidas is clearly making the school a top client.
