Arnold Schwarzenegger Returns for ‘Terminator Genisys’
Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to his most popular film series with the upcoming Terminator Genisys. This movie is the first in a planned trilogy intended to reboot the franchise. Schwarzenegger plays an aging Terminator, who joins forces in 2029 with Kyle Reese and John Connor’s mother Sarah, during a war between rebel humans and an evil artificial intelligence system, while Kyle tries to hold back “Judgment Day.” As in the original film, Kyle is sent back to 1984 to save Sarah from a Terminator programmed to kill her so she can’t give birth to John. However, this installment offers a surprising twist. It turns out that Sarah, orphaned at the age of 9, has been raised by Schwarzenegger’s Terminator, who is programmed to protect her.
Starring as Kyle is Jai Courtney, who can currently be seen in the hit film Unbroken. Also starring are Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke in the role of Sarah Connor, and Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) playing the leader of the resistance, John Connor, along with actors Matt Smith of TV’s Doctor Who, J.K. Simmons (The Ultimate Spider-Man), Byung-hun Lee (G.I. Joe film franchise), and Sandrine Holt (House of Cards).
Directing the film is Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World). The screenplay was written by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry).
Terminator Genisys will be released in theaters nationwide on July 1.
