Aroldis Chapman Leg Presses 1,000 Pounds, Might Not Be Human
No one in professional baseball throws as hard as Aroldis Chapman.
The New York Yankees relief pitcher took his already scorching velocity to another level last season, routinely lighting up the gun with 104-plus-mph offerings. He threw one pitch that clocked in at a blistering 105.1 mph. According to MLB Statcast, Chapman’s four-seam fastball averaged 100.9 mph last season. You’ve got to have freakish strength and power to sit at 101.
It’s no surprise, then, that Chapman is an absolute monster in the weight room. Last week, we wrote an article about his benching almost 300 pounds. But that was nothing compared to the weight he leg pressed earlier this morning:

That photo captures a moment posted on Chapman’s Instagram account. By our calculations, it is 990 pounds. Chapman is listed at 6-foot-4, 212 pounds. That’s an insane amount of weight.
A pitcher’s power comes from his lower half, and Chapman is living proof. Can you imagine how hard he’ll throw if he manages to get even stronger? MLB hitters shudder at the thought.
