‘Assassin’s Creed’ Movie Coming in May 2015
The upcoming film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed will hit theaters on May 22, 2015, according to Box Office Mojo.
Michael Fassbender has been tapped to star in the movie and will co-produce it with Ubisoft, which is intent on maintaining creative control after being disappointed by Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. “Michael Fassbender was our first choice,” revealed Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
Fassbender is expected to play the main protagonist, Desmond Miles, but it’s unclear which time period he’ll visit. According to Variety, the plot will stay true to the games by focusing on a man who comes to learn about his ancestors’ heritage as trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret organization linked to the Knights Templar. He is then sent back in time to recover various artifacts.
The movie’s release date comes just as the studio gears up for the release of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, which will serve as a prequel to 2012’s Assassin’s Creed III. It will be released on October 29 for PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360 and PC. There are also plans to release the project on next-generation consoles in the future.
Fans who pre-order the title will be treated to gifts, depending on the retailer they choose. GameStop is offering the “Black Island” pack, which comes with a Captain Morgan outfit, the privateer’s pistol and a black deadly ship. Amazon is giving customers the “Hidden Mystery” pack, which comes with an extra mission on Mystery Island, Stede Bonnet’s ship and outfits and a few multiplayer gems. Walmart, Best Buy and Target are offering the “Sacrificed Secrets,” “Lost Treasures,” and “Trove of Mystery” packs, respectively. Watch the trailer for the game below.
