Attack the Net With FSU's Tennis Drill
Playing high-level tennis means being able to get to the net quickly to finish off a point with authority. Try this drill from Andy Gerst, Florida State men’s tennis assistant coach, to build the skills required to attack the net successfully.
What you’ll need: coach or partner
How to Do it:
Four-Ball Net Drill
- As coach feeds ball to you at service line, return ball with approach shot down line; move toward net
- As coach feeds firmly-hit ball toward your body, return ball with volley down line; continue movement toward net
- As coach hits another firmly-hit ball, return ball with cross-court volley
- As coach hits lob, finish drill with overhead slam
Sets: 10
Coaching Points: Work up to completing 10 sets where you get to every ball // Have coach stick to pace that matches up with your playing ability // Rest as needed between sets
