‘Avengers 2’ Official Title Reveals Main Villian
Joss Whedon introduced a teaser for the forthcoming Avengers 2 movie at Comic-Con over the weekend. The short clip interspersed shots from the first movie with new images before finally revealing the title of the next movie: Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The title tells us two things: the main villain will be Ultron, and since Ultron is a creation of Ant-Man, we will get an introduction to the talented Dr. Henry Pym.
For those not in-the-know, Ultron first appeared in comic books in the late 60s. He is a robot created by Pym that begins to think on his own and develop an intense hatred for his maker. With his super-human intelligence, he is a formidable foe indeed.
Whedon can draw from a number of Ultron storylines, including the Ultimate Marvel version. Ultron could be the result of a robot project put together by SHIELD to combat the growing threat from superhumans. But considering all that’s going on in the upcoming X-Men movie, Days of Future Past, it seems unlikely that Marvel and Whedon will take the Avengers 2 in a similar direction by having Ultron come from the future to fight the Avengers.
However, it does seem that Ultron’s story will be intermingled with fellow newcomer Scarlet Witch. The storyline could even introduce the Masters of Evil. Ultimately, we won’t know anything until Captain America’s next movie, The Winter Solider, opens in theaters on April 4, 2014.
Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015. Ant-Man will premiere Nov. 6, 2015. Where do you want the story to go?
