STACK Battle of the Brands Week Eight Preview
Preseason projections for the Battle of the Brands fantasy football league had Team Nike going undefeated, Teams Reebok and Under Armour finishing 7-7, and Team adidas ending the season winless. So here we are, midway through the season, and all four teams are neck and neck with each other. Now on to our official Week Eight preview.
Game 1: Team adidas (3-4) vs. Team Reebok (4-3)
Team adidas
Robert Griffin III performed admirably against a formidable New York Giants D last week. He’ll be tested again against the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. With Kyle Rudolph playing Thursday night and Jimmy Graham’s availability in question, we opted to start Rudolph at tight end and Graham at the flex, in case a replacement for Graham is needed if he’s a last-minute scratch, as was the case last week.
- QB: Robert Griffin III (@ PIT)
- WR: Kendall Wright (vs. IND)
- WR: Davone Bess (@NYJ)
- RB: Frank Gore (@ ARI)
- RB: Reggie Bush (@ NYJ)
- TE: Kyle Rudolph (vs. TB)
- Flex: Jimmy Graham (@ DEN)
Team Reebok
Team Reebok returns four players to its lineup following their mega Week Seven bye, but they suffered a significant loss with the injury to RB Maurice Jones-Drew. All signs point to the workhorse back missing the next few weeks with a sprained foot. Nevertheless, several Reebok players face favorable matchups this week, including QB Peyton Manning, WR Brandon Marshall, TE Antonio Gates and WR/Flex Reggie Wayne.
- QB: Peyton Manning (vs. NO)
- WR: Brandon Marshall (vs. CAR)
- WR: Roddy White (@ PHI)
- RB: Jamaal Charles (vs. OAK )
- RB: Ahmad Bradshaw (@ DAL)
- TE: Antonio Gates (@ CLE)
- Flex: Reggie Wayne (@ TEN)
Game 2: Team Nike (4-3) vs. Team Under Armour (3-4)
Team Nike
Team Nike is embroiled in a heated battle this week—against itself—as six of its seven starters’ teams will be playing each other on Sunday. Adrian Peterson, the No. 2-ranked RB by the sports analytics firm numberFire, starts things off on Thursday Night Football. Peterson had his best game of the season last week with a 153 rushing yards and a TD.
- QB: Matt Ryan (@ PHI)
- WR: Calvin Johnson (vs. SEA)
- WR: Victor Cruz (@ DAL)
- RB: LeSean McCoy (vs. ATL)
- RB: Adrian Peterson (vs. TB)
- TE: Jason Witten (vs. NYG)
- Flex: Marshawn Lynch (@ DET)
Team Under Armour
Good news: Team Under Armour ended a four-game losing streak with a win over first-place Team Reebok last week. Bad news: Arian Foster, UA’s top dog, is on bye this week. Willis McGahee takes his place and faces a favorable matchup against a New Orleans defense that ranks in the bottom of the league against the run.
- QB: Tom Brady (@ STL)
- WR: Steve Smith (@ CHI)
- WR: Julio Jones (@ PHI)
- RB: Willis McGahee (vs. NO)
- RB: Stevan Ridley (@ STL)
- TE: Vernon Davis (@ ARI)
- Flex: Miles Austin (vs. NYG)
