How to Care for Beach Hair
Whether you are surfing, boogie boarding or swimming, salty ocean water can wreak havoc on your hair. The combination of sea salt, sand, wind and sun can make the beach a battleground for your hair. Replenish the natural oils in your dry, brittle beach hair with this post-beach hair treatment:
Hair Treatment Supplies
- Moisturizing shampoo
- Hydrating conditioner
- Olive oil
Hair Treatment Instructions
Wash your hair with moisturizing shampoo before and after the beach. This will remove sand and dirt without stripping the hair of its natural oils. Do not use clarifying shampoos, as they remove beneficial oils.
Condition your hair with a deep hydrating conditioner that contains natural oils. Keep the conditioner in your hair for at least five minutes before rinsing.
Treat your hair with olive oil at least once a week to nourish the hair and repair damaged hair shafts. Do this by spreading one-fourth cup of olive oil over your hair; massage it into the hair with circular motions; and let the olive oil set on the hair for 30 minutes. Rinse the olive oil from your hair with water and moisturizing shampoo.
