The upcoming global cybercrime thriller Blackhat, previously known as Cyber, will feature an exciting cast headlined by Chris Hemsworth.
In this film, which co-stars Viola Davis (The Help), protagonist Nicholas Hathaway (Hemsworth) is a furloughed convict, serving time for cybertheft. Nicholas agrees to pursue a sophisticated cybercrime network and chases the criminals across the globe through such exotic locations as Hong Kong and Jakarta.
The cast also includes Graceland’s Manny Montana, along with William Mapother of TV’s The Mentalist, John Ortiz (Silver Linings Playbook) and Spencer Garrett (Public Enemies).
Writing and directing the pic is prominent filmmaker Michael Mann, who is best known for the popular action-adventure epic, The Last of the Mohicans. Collaborating with Mann on the screenplay for this new project is first-timer Morgan Davis Foehl, who previously worked as a film editor on I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.
Footage of the film was recently screened at Comic-Con during an appearance by Mann and Hemsworth. This is a much anticipated project for many reasons, including the fact that it’s the first feature film Mann has directed in five years. Mann is also producing the movie, along with Thomas Tull.
Blackhat is set to hit theaters nationwide on Jan. 16.
