‘Bourne 5’ Reaching Theaters in 2015
Bourne 5 will arrive in theaters Aug. 14, 2015.
The fifth installment in the franchise will center on Jeremy Renner’s character Aaron Cross and his life after the events of The Bourne Legacy. The future of the series was in jeopardy after Legacy failed to catch on at the box office, but Universal seems willing to put its faith, or at least its wallet, behind Renner as the protagonist. Justin Lin, who created the 2013 blockbuster Fast & Furious 6, has been selected to take over director duties from Tony Gilroy. Writer Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) is handling the script, and Frank Marshall is returning as a producer.
Details about the plot and who will join Renner in the cast have not been announced. But it’s a given that a few shady government higher-ups will gather in a secret room to whisper details about Treadstone and draw up an ill-fated plan to get rid of Cross. Whether he’ll again be linked with scientist Dr. Marta Shearing (Rachel Weisz) or save a different distressed damsel remains to be seen.
It would be great, but it’s unlikely the movie will intersect Jason Bourne’s and Cross’s story lines.
Its 2015 release date will pit the action thriller against several other highly anticipated follow-ups, like the Avengers: Age of Ultron, Batman vs. Superman, Star Wars: Episode VII and Jurassic World.
