Bradley Cooper Adapting ‘Hyperion’ for Syfy
Bradley Cooper is teaming with Oscar winner Graham King (The Departed, Argo) and Todd Phillips (The Hangover franchise) to adapt Dan Simmons’ novel Hyperion for an event series which will air on Syfy. Writing the script and co-executive producing is Itamar Moses, best known for writing the HBO drama series Boardwalk Empire. Cooper and Phillips will also be executive producing.
The best-selling book, first published in 1989, takes place when the world is on the verge of Armageddon. The entire galaxy is at war. The story chronicles the quest of seven pilgrims who embark on a journey, determined to find answers to the riddles of their lives. All seven have certain important things in common. Each possesses a terrible secret and a desperate hope. However, only one of them may carry the fate of humankind in his hands.
Remarking on the adaptation, Cooper said, “It is an absolute honor to enter into the world created by Dan Simmons that is arguably one of the greatest works of science fiction, and help realize it for television audiences.”
Cooper has also been involved in another high profile television project, the small screen adaptation of his hit 2011 sci-fi movie Limitless. The popular Hollywood leading man is executive producing this CBS series and will reprise his role of Edward Mora on a recurring basis.
