Brandin Cooks Hit a Sizzling 21.89 mph on This Record-Setting Touchdown
Brandin Cooks could be the biggest home run threat in the NFL.
With a single play, his electric speed and elusiveness can change a game. He did exactly that in the New Orleans Saints’ Week 6 win over the Carolina Panthers.
With 2:31 remaining in the first quarter, the Saints had the ball at their own 13-yard line. Drew Brees dropped back and delivered a perfect deep ball to Cooks, who then fired up the turbo and left the Panthers’ defensive backfield in the dust on his way to an 87-yard touchdown:

Cooks’ top speed of 21.89 mph proved to be the second-fastest by any ballcarrier during Week 6.
Cooks is the first player in league history to have two touchdowns of 85-plus yards through his team’s first five games of a season. “I turn it into a track meet,” Cooks told NOLA.com after the game. “It feels like you get the baton handed off to you and you just run. On the track, you’re not looking around, you’re just going. So, that’s what I feel like is my vision.”
Brees knows Cooks is a weapon who can change a game anytime, anywhere. “If you can hit [Brandin] in stride,” Brees said. “I don’t think there’s anybody that’s going to catch him—Usain Bolt maybe.”
