Brenton Thwaites to Join Cast of New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Flick
Australian actor Brenton Thwaites is reportedly joining the cast of the upcoming movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The actor is in final negotiations to play a pivotal role in this fifth installment of the hugely popular film franchise.
The news comes on the heels of the revelation that Javier Bardem is in final talks to join the cast, in the villainous role of a ghost captain who blames Captain Jack Sparrow for his brother’s death and is out for revenge.
Even though the 25-year-old Thwaites hasn’t achieved major stardom in the U.S., he is fast approaching A-list status. His big break came when he was cast as Prince Phillip in the Angelina Jolie fantasy blockbuster Maleficent, following up the performance by co-starring as Jonas in The Giver. Another high-profile project featuring Thwaites is the upcoming adventure flick Gods of Egypt, due out in February 2016.
Shooting in Thwaites’s native Australia next year, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to premiere in theaters nationwide July 7, 2017.
