‘The Brothers Grimm’ Headed to TV
The feature film The Brothers Grimm is joining the long list of movies being adapted to series television. The 2005 motion picture, originally planned as the first installment in a potential franchise, starred Matt Damon and Heath Ledger as traveling con artists faced with a mystical curse. Although the troubled production did not do well domestically, it did turn a $17 million profit worldwide.
The upcoming series will build off the movie’s origin story. Centering on brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, it will follow the duo’s swashbuckling adventures as they uncover stunning mythology and supernatural stakes beneath the folklore of 19th Century Europe.
Developed by Miramax, the series is being written by screenwriter Ehren Kruger, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. Kruger’s other notable credits include the last three films in the Transformers franchise.
In the announcement, Miramax Vice President of Television Daniel Pipski said, “We reached out to Ehren Kruger and producing partner Daniel Bobker to see if they had any interest in making The Brothers Grimm movie into a TV show, and the pitch Ehren came back with blew us away. We’re thrilled to be working with a writer of his caliber.”
Kruger commented, “The original stories the Brothers set out to collect were not for the faint of heart, and we’ll be making a show that gets back to those origins and their cautionary, scary, thrilling spirit.”
Kruger will also serve as an executive producer, alongside partner Daniel Bobker.
