Get Pumped: Cam McDaniel Is Poised to Become an Impact Player
Cam McDaniel isn’t content just to make it to the NFL. He’s poised to become an impact player on Sundays.
McDaniel knows the odds are stacked against him. The Notre Dame running back was not invited to the NFL Combine, so he’s banking on a strong Pro Day workout to push his name into the draft conversation.
“I’ve really just got to get after it,” McDaniel says. “It’s just a bear-down and get-the-job-done mentality.”
While his fellow draft hopefuls attended the Combine in February, McDaniel worked out at the STACK Velocity Sports Performance Center in Irvine, California. The versatile back focused on improving his speed in hopes of earning a spot in an NFL backfield. He says, “For me, top-end speed is going to be huge, just to be as fast and quick as possible.”
McDaniel is appreciated for his team-first mentality and willingness to contribute in all facets of the game, including special teams. But his strict preparation and intense focus on making it to the next level are what McDaniel believes will give him an edge in making an NFL team. “There’s a grittiness that you tend to develop as an athlete,” he says. “When that focal point moment comes in your play, you remember your preparation and you remember those times when it was like, ‘OK, it’s time to get it done.’
“I’m just motivated to be the very best I can be. To know I’m getting stronger and to know that I’m getting faster and quicker, you’re seeing your times drop and seeing your strength go up. It’s a fun experience.”
