The original massive 64-player bracket to determine the cover athlete for EA Sports' Madden 13 has been whittled down to two superstars—Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson and Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton. Fans can vote online for their choice. Voting closes on April 25.
Apparently, Cam Newton is pushing his campaign to be the Madden cover athlete to a whole new level. In the video below, he shows off his incredible gaming setup and issues a couple of challenges. He explains that after participating in OTAs with the Panthers, playing video games is his "sanctuary"; and he offers fans a glimpse of his hideaway, which contains two TVs and both Xbox and PS3 systems. "This is a public service announcement for anyone that thinks they can play Madden," says Newton.
In the video, Killa Cam gives out both of his gamertags (he's "theACEboog1e" on Xbox 360 and "CAMdaGREATx2" on PS3), along with an email address for fans to use if they want to accept his challenge and play him online. Just send a note to firstname.lastname@example.org with your full name, phone number and gamertag. "This is real," says Newton. "Madden 13 needs a real gamer."
Newton's other challenge is directed at his opponent in the Madden 13 cover contest, Calvin Johnson. He wants to go head to head with "Mr. Megatron" in a game that he says he'll stream online.
Voting is open until April 25, so vote for your pick now.
"Can't nobody play Madden like your boy Cam Newton," he boasts.
Here's your chance to see if he's right.
