Meet Your U. S. Olympians: Carmelo Anthony
Although the U.S. men’s basketball team has been far from perfect in their games leading up to the 2012 London Olympics, forward Carmelo Anthony has the utmost confidence in his team’s ability to secure another gold medal this August. STACK caught up with Anthony at the Nike World Basketball Festival before the team headed abroad to Manchester and Barcelona.
“In life, in anything that you do…[playing] with the best is going to bring out the best in you,” said Melo, who, while recognizing his teammates’ individual talent, understands the importance of coming together as a unit. At the World Basketball Festival, Anthony also talked about the significance of representing his country and how USA Basketball’s Hoops for Troops program has shaped his outlook on being able to play professional basketball for a living.
This will be Anthony’s third Olympic games. Coach Mike Krzyzewski remarked, “Talk about commitment…As good of a player as [Anthony] is in the NBA, I think he is really one of the more outstanding international players.”
