Top Rap Releases (Feb. 12): Chamillionaire, Kevin McCall and Ras Kass
Love of the game undoubtedly inspired a few of the rappers who have projects coming out during Valentine’s Day week.
Chamillionaire, Elevate
Chamillionaire releases Elevate, a free EP, this week via his website. The project is the first of an anticipated series in which the Houston rapper will tackle different topics before unleashing Poison, his long awaited follow-up to 2007’s Ultimate Victory. He has released 500 numbered and autographed copies of the EP for pre-order and an additional 500 for those who want a physical copy. If you aren’t among the 1,000 early birds, download the EP anyway. Seven original songs for free is an unbeatable deal.
Kevin McCall, Definition
Over the last few years, Kevin McCall has been making a name for himself in the industry, working with the likes of Chris Brown, Big Sean, Tyga and Wynter Gordon. This week he releases his latest mixtape, Definition. Not much info has been leaked about the DJ-Holiday affair, but the ability of the singer, songwriter and rapper to churn out hits like “Deuces” should assure fans that he won’t give them anything less than his best.
Ras Kass, Barmageddon
Barmageddon is a follow-up to Ras Kass’s mixtape of the same name, which was released back in November. The 18-track project features a slew of guests, including Kendrick Lamar and veterans Talib Kweli, Too Short, Monie Love, Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Yukmouth and Ice-T. Fans can listen to the project before they purchase it by heading over to BandCamp. It’s arguably a return to form for the California native, who has stumbled in his past attempts to live up to his classic debut, Soul On Ice.
