Chance the Rapper Releases New Mixtape ‘Acid Rap’
Chance the Rapper released his highly-anticipated mixtape, Acid Rap, late last week. The free offering has already catapulted the Chi-town rapper into the hearts of the mainstream audience. His debut tape, #10Day, built on a growing local fan base, and the follow-up confirms his place as one of the most promising up and coming MCs.
“When I recorded #10Day, I had never done a mixtape before. A lot of the songs were two tracks where it was just an instrumental that I took, or someone had sent me a beat,” said Chance during an interview with HipHopDX. “With [Acid Rap], every song that was made, I was there from when the song was an idea that we were talking about, to the building of all the tracks, to the vocal and the background vocal, to deciding the features. I was just way more involved in the production side of things and making it sound the way I wanted it to sound.”
J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Jake One, Nate Fox, DJ Ozone and others contributed beats to the project, which was heavily influenced by music from Jamiroquai and Brand New Heavies. Childish Gambino, Action Bronson, BJ the Chicago Kid, Twista, Ab Soul and several others contributed verses. All of the songs are solid, but be sure to check out “Juice” and “Acid Rain.” To maintain creative control over his music, the Chicago rapper insists on remaining independent for now. Acid Rap shows he is more than capable of putting together a quality effort.
