This past week: Chief Keef joined Brick Squad; Dame Dash gave fans an inside look at life after Jay-Z; and Naughty by Nature’s Treach exposed the group’s dirty laundry on Twitter.
Chief Keef Joins Gucci Mane’s Brick Squad Label
On May 8, via Twitter, Gucci Mane introduced Big Gucci Sosa as the “newest member of Bricksquad 1017.” The news took many by surprise. The two have collaborated in the past, but Keef appeared to be running his own label, Glory Boyz Entertainment, through a deal with Interscope. Gucci also shared a new logo which appears to merge both labels under the moniker 1017 Glo Gang.
Brick Squad has been undergoing a lot of changes lately. Gucci recently ended all business ties with long-time labelmate Waka Flocka following a heated argument.
Dame Dash Faces Mounting Debt & Foreclosure on His NY Home
Dame Dash, the former head of Roc-A-Fella Records, recently exposed his financial troubles through court documents in response to a 2008 civil judgment. “I am currently several months behind in paying my personal bills,” wrote Dash, according to the New York Daily News. “For instance, I am currently over $100,000 behind in rent for the only home in which I live and am at risk of being evicted.”
The one-time executive split with Jay-Z in 2004, and despite coming into $20 million, he hasn’t been able to find stable financial ground. His recently had a costly split with his wife, Rachel Roy, and he lost several pricey NYC pads to foreclosure. He has also had trouble paying his increasing state and federal tax bills.
Naughty by Nature Implodes Online
Naughty by Nature’s Treach took to Twitter on May 6 to inform followers that there was trouble in the group. “Vinnie from Naughty by Nature is officially fired!! Anything he does besides shows ’til Sept is Frugazy [sic],” wrote the 90s rapper, who also assured fans that his account had not been taken over by hackers. He even released a diss track aimed at his long-time collaborator, entitled “Tall Midget.”
Vinnie responded via the group’s official account on the social site.
