Rap News Rundown: Chief Keef, DG Yola, Jay Z
Last week, Chief Keef was arrested for DUI, DG Yola was arrested for murder and Jay Z took aim at a certain Young Money performer.
Chief Keef Arrested for DUI
If you were wondering whether embattled rapper Chief Keef learned anything during his recent stint in rehab, look no further than his latest single, “F— Rehab,” and his recent arrest for DUI.
According to reports, the arrest occurred earlier this month in Highland Park, Ill. Keef was pulled over for allegedly having expired tags on his 2010 Jeep Cherokee. Officers noticed a strong marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, and the rapper admitted to smoking, according to the report. After he failed a field sobriety test, he was arrested. He was also charged with driving without a valid driver’s license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and having an expired registration. He posted bail a short time later.
DG Yola Arrested for Murder
DG Yola, known for his hit single “Ain’t Gon’ Let Up,” was arrested late last week for murder. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the arrest is in connection with the death and attempted robbery of a fellow Atlanta man on March 9. Law enforcement has linked the rapper to a string of robberies at the Daron Village Apartments in metro Atlanta, where this crime took place. A second victim has also come forward, alleging to have been robbed and shot in the same neighborhood.
This isn’t Yola’s first time in trouble. Legal issues have plagued his once promising rap career. He went to jail in 2009, convicted of aggravated assault for shooting his cousin. During an interview with MTV in 2012, he insisted the shooting was in self-defense after his cousin attempted to rob him. “He wasn’t the first n—a I blast and he might not be the last,” Yola boasted.
Jay Z Responds to Drake on ‘We Made It’
During his March interview with Rolling Stone, Drake called out Jay Z for injecting art references into his music a little too often. “It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references. I would love to collect [art] at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny,” said Drizzy.
The comment apparently rubbed Jay the wrong way. The New York MC got out of character, mentioning the Young Money rapper’s name in a diss during his appearance on Jay Electronica’s “We Made It” freestyle remix.
“Sorry, Mrs. Drizzy for so much art talk. Silly me, rappin’ ’bout s— that I really bought,” rapped Jay. “While these rappers rap ’bout guns they ain’t shot and a bunch of other silly s— that they ain’t got.”
Drake has not responded.
