Rap News Rundown: Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Chief Keef
Last week, mainstream media “conspired” to give Chris Brown a seizure, Nicki Minaj had words with a former collaborator, and Chief Keef’s London no-show cost him big.
Chris Brown Suffers Seizure; Rep Blames “Non-Stop Negativity”
Chris Brown had a seizure during the wee hours of Friday morning at an L.A. recording studio, reports TMZ. The fire department and other rescue personnel responded, but Brown declined medical treatment. A rep for the singer released a statement some time later and blamed the seizure on the performer’s treatment by the media: “His doctor tended to him this afternoon and attributes the NES [non-epileptic seizure] to intense fatigue and extreme emotional stress, both due to the continued onslaught of unfounded legal matters and the nonstop negativity.”
In recent tweets, the singer has openly lamented harsh treatment by the media. He even threatened to retire following the release of his upcoming album, X.
Nicki Minaj Blasts “Disrespectful” Rapper
Nicki Minaj recently lashed out at former collaborator Ransom over what many assumed was a diss. On his new song “Man Alone,” Ransom seems to claim that he once served as a ghostwriter for the YMCMB rapper with the line: “Before Nicki was wearing those crazy wigs, I was doing verses for her, just hoping she made it big.”
When asked about the rumor by TMZ, Minaj called Ransom “desperate” and predicted that he wouldn’t succeed in the rap game. But the Jersey native insists he wasn’t insinuating that he wrote verses for her; instead he was recalling how they would collaborate with each other, and he would lend his own verses to her records.
Ransom is now calling for an apology from the New York femcee. “I can see why it would be misinterpreted, but I can’t see why she would lash out so viciously like that,” said Ransom to MTV. “I thought we was a lil’ bigger than that. I thought when we cross paths again it would be something different.”
Chief Keef Ordered to Fork Over $230,000 in Lawsuit
A judge recently ordered Chief Keef to hand over $230,000 to a promotion company after he failed to appear for a scheduled concert in London. The company alleged that his no-show on Dec. 29, 2012, cost them nearly $80,000, including an advance payment they had made to him. The Chicago rapper neglected to respond to the suit, and the judge entered a default judgment in favor of the plaintiff, including money for loss of earnings and damage to the company’s bruised reputation.
