Chris Pratt Is a Bootlegger in ‘The Real McCoy’
Universal Studios beat out Warner Bros. for the rights to the highly coveted Chris Pratt action-adventure project The Real McCoy.
The story follows real-life bootlegger Bill McCoy, who despite breaking the law during Prohibition, prided himself on being an honest criminal. He was known for selling liquor that was clean and uncut, in contrast to other bootleggers during this wild, gangster-driven age. McCoy’s reputation for supplying quality liquor spawned the expression “the real McCoy.”
The idea for the film was conceived by Tom McNulty (Date Night), who will produce the picture with Michael De Luca (Moneyball). When the pitch made its way to Pratt, he was excited about it from the outset.
The pitch was written Bill Dubuque, who made his feature film screenwriting debut last year with the Robert Downey Jr. drama The Judge. His next movie is the Ben Affleck action thriller The Accountant, currently filming.
Since starring in the phenomenally successful Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt has become one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. His upcoming projects reportedly include Guardians of the Galaxy 2, a Magnificent Seven remake, and a sci-fi flick titled Passengers. Rumor has it he may also star in a new Ghostbusters and/or Indiana Jones film.
The actor’s busy schedule is causing some to speculate that he might not commit to The Real McCoy, but considering Pratt’s enthusiasm for the property and the interest it has garnered from filmmakers, it would be surprising if he passed on the film.
