Christian McCaffrey is a master escape artist.
Just when a defense thinks they have him dead to rights, McCaffrey’s dynamite agility and elite vision allow him to find daylight. If you ask the Carolina Panthers rookie running back how he’s able to pull off such amazing athletic feats, he’s quick to point towards his diet.
McCaffrey is a machine when it comes to nutrition. His diet is meticulous and perfectly tuned to his own unique needs. “I’ve always been pretty honed in on my diet. I’m a bit obsessed with it. I get my blood tested all the time to make sure i don’t have any allergies. I’ve got a great chef who gets all-natural ingredients,” McCaffrey says. “I don’t like missing any meals or missing any kind of nutrition (stuff) I need to do.”
That “great chef” is chef Kevin Winston, who serves as a personal chef for several professional athletes in the Charlotte area. Here’s a glimpse of the sort of fuel Winston whips up for McCaffrey:
As you can see, there’s a big focus on fish, lean protein, veggies and complex carbohydrates. “I eat a lot of fish, I eat a lot of brown rice and gluten-free pasta,” McCaffrey says. “I really keep it pretty organic and pretty clean.”
But what doesn’t go into McCaffrey’s body is just as important as what does. “I avoid anything that I have an allergy to or anything that’s going to cause inflammation in my system,” McCaffrey says. “I don’t eat any dairy. I don’t eat any dessert.” Ice cream, it appears, is out of the question. I guess those are just the sacrifices you must make if you want feet that move like this:
