Coast Guard Videos Skip the Recruitment Spiel, Show Reality
The U.S. Coast Guard recently released a series of YouTube videos that depict the lives of Coast Guardsmen and women as realistically as possible.
Rather than teasing viewers with glorious scenes to stimulate recruitment, the videos are simple and unadorned, including raw footage that reveals the actual work performed by members of the Coast Guard on a regular basis—and exemplifying the level of technical skill and intelligent decision-making their jobs require.
For example, the “Hoist on the High Seas” video (below) shows a crew from the U. S. Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., conducting a helicopter rescue of a man from a 516-foot motor vessel in choppy seas. The video contains no unnecessary fluff and no inspirational sound track.
