Daniel Bruhl Joins ‘Captain America: Civil War’
There’s big news on the Captain America: Civil War front.
Actor Daniel Bruhl, best known for Inglourious Basterds and Rush, has been added to the star-studded cast, playing a yet-to-be-announced role, in this anxiously awaited Marvel epic. Bruhl joins prominent actors Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and hot newcomer Chadwick Boseman, who has recently made a name for himself in big screen biopics 42 and Get on Up.
In a statement announcing Bruhl’s addition to the project, Marvel praised the actor, pointed out his many accomplishments and quoted the film’s producer and Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige, who said: “With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes.”
So far, the only information being revealed about Bruhl’s character is that he is a villain. This one detail could indicate a significant departure in the storyline from the Civil War comic series, in which Captain America and Iron Man square off against one another over governmental issues, instead of battling a villain. Whether the differences between the comics and the upcoming film adaptation are major or minor, the news that a villain is in the mix will undoubtedly set off excited speculation among fans.
Following their massive success with Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year, brothers Joe and Anthony Russo are returning to direct. The screenplay is being written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who penned the first two films in the series.
Captain America: Civil War is expected to premiere on May 6, 2016.
