Tired of hearing about the Twilight vampire soap opera?  You might be surprised by how much you'll enjoy a movie based on the original vampire soap opera, Dark Shadows.

The recently-released trailer for Dark Shadows (in theaters May 11) shows that director Tim Burton has largely ignored his 1970s soap opera source material, opting instead for a crazy comedy starring Johnny Depp as vampire Barnabas Collins. The movie follows Collins, who has woken up in the 1970s after being transformed into a vampire by his ex-girlfriend witch two centuries earlier. Throughout the movie, he battles both old foes like monsters and werewolves and new adversaries like television and disco.

With its light tone, crazy characters and oddball plot, Dark Shadows is the perfect summer movie to balance out adrenaline-laced blockbusters like The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. Whether you're in the mood for a laugh or you're a fan of the twisted Tim Burton/Johnny Depp combo, look out for Dark Shadows, coming this summer.
