Dominic Cooper Will Star in AMC’s ‘Preacher’ Adaptation
Dominic Cooper will go from brilliant inventor and the father of Iron Man to Jesse Custer, a small town southern preacher on a literal hunt for God in AMC’s upcoming adaptation of the ’90s comic Preacher.
Seth Rogen, who will serve as an executive producer on the project, confirmed the news via Twitter late last week. “We have Jesse Custer! [Dominic Cooper] is gonna save our souls,” he wrote.
The story will follow Custer, who after losing his faith, learns that God has skipped out on his duties and left heaven. Instilled with the word of God, which gives him the power to make anyone obey his orders, he, his ex-girlfriend Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, set out to track the deity and make him answer for abandoning his post. Along the way, they will run into plenty of interesting characters including The Saint of Killers, who seeks to put an end to Custer, and is never far behind them.
Ruth Negga, who appears on Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., will portray the gun-happy Tulip; and Joseph Gilgun will take on the role of Cassidy. Ian Colletti and Lucy Griffiths star as Arseface and Jesse’s loyal friend, Emily.
Evan Goldberg, who will produce alongside Rogen, told Collider late last year that they would try to stick to the source material as closely as possible. “We need to change some stuff but we’re not gonna change much, I hope. We’re just gonna do a little more of the preamble instead of doing flashbacks and restructure how we dole out the information a little, but we’re gonna [do the] same characters, same story, same ending,” said Goldberg. “We’re gonna try to stick to Preacher as best we can.”
