Double Dose of Insanity: Blake Griffin’s Monster Dunks
Although the Los Angeles Clippers are struggling (their record out of the gate is 1-13), they do have the NBA’s top rookie in 6’10” forward Blake Griffin. The former Oklahoma Sooner and top NBA Draft pick in 2009 sat out last season with a stress fracture in his left kneecap.
The injury had Griffin watching from the sidelines, which he admits was difficult at times. “After a while, it was like, ‘This is horrible,'” Griffin says. “There were plenty of times I didn’t want to necessarily be there. It was rough. Some days were bad, worse than others…I tried to control it as much as possible and be aware of it. Make sure you’re positive.”
Staying positive and working hard through the rehabilitation process proved to be a successful combination (read about Griffin’s intense workouts with trainer Frank Matrisciano). Griffin has been nothing but spectacular so far this year. This past Saturday, Nov. 20, against the New York Knicks, he dropped in 44 points (most ever by a Clipper rookie), grabbed 15 boards and dished out seven assists, proving that he’s not another high draft pick bust.
One of Griffin’s most impressive attributes is his 37.5-inch vertical leap. And during his record-breaking performance against the Knicks, he was not shy about showing it off. Video highlights of two of his monster dunks are below.
Knicks All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire, who had a monster game of his own with 39 points and 11 rebounds, gave props to Griffin in the following clip.
Let’s hope the Clippers can rebuild around their superstar and become a playoff-caliber squad. Check out a great post on how to increase your vertical jump and also, head over to STACK.com to check out more exclusive interview videos with Blake Griffin.
