Dustin Pedroia, All-Star second baseman for the Boston Red Sox, may not be among the biggest guys on the field, but he certainly has a lot of hitting power. Since joining the Sox in 2006, he’s put on a “laser show” as one of the most consistent bats on the team.
Pedroia develops his hitting power during his off-season training. The workout below starts with core rotational power work. These moves train Pedroia’s body to produce power with his lower body, rotate powerfully through his core and finish with an upper-body movement—just like swinging a bat or throwing a ball. The workout finishes with two back exercises to increase upper-body strength and a final lower-body power exercise.
Add this routine to your training program once or twice per week to increase your hitting power like Pedroia.
