Dwayne Johnson is set to star in the Disney feature Jungle Cruise, a live-action film based on the classic theme park ride, in which visitors travel through a series of exciting African settings.

The screenplay will be written by long-time collaborators John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, whose most recent work includes the Will Smith crime dramedy Focus, released earlier this year.

ComimgSoon.net quoted Johnson, saying: “[Disney production president] Sean Bailey and Disney have been awesome partners and now the fun part begins. We’re starting to put in the work with Requa and Ficarra and our creative team. Fired up about this one. Here we go.”

The studio has wanted to adapt Jungle Cruise to the big screen since 2004. At one point, it was shaping up as a modern take starring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. The upcoming version will be a retro adventure.

Jungle Cruise will be coming full circle with this feature film adaptation. One inspiration for the ride was the classic Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn movie, The African Queen.

No release date has been announced, but considering Johnson’s busy schedule, it might be a while. The actor is currently filming the espionage comedy Central Intelligence, out June 17, 2016, and he has at least five other pictures in the works.
