TRAILER: Tom Cruise Battles Aliens in ‘Edge of Tomorrow’
Tom Cruise leads an impressive cast in Edge of Tomorrow, a near-future sci-fi thriller in which an alien race, too powerful for any military unit to defeat, relentlessly attacks Earth.
Cruise plays Lt. Col. Bill Cage, an officer who has never been exposed to combat and is sent into what is virtually a suicide mission. Although Cage’s death comes swiftly, he is thrown into a time loop that forces him to relive the torturous battle over and over. One good thing that comes out of Cage’s suffering: He develops the skills necessary to potentially defeat the enemy.
Emily Blunt stars as Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski, who fights alongside Cage. The film also features Bill Paxton, Jeremy Piven and Jonas Armstrong.
Directing is Doug Liman, known for high profile action flicks like The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
The screenplay, based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s novel All You Need is Kill, was written by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) along with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth, who wrote the biopic Fair Game.
Edge of Tomorrow opens in 3D/2D theaters and IMAX 3D June 6.
