Gaming Update: ‘Final Fantasy XIV,’ ‘Borderlands 2’ and ‘Splinter Cell: Blacklist’
Last week, we spent a lot of time looking to the future. Final Fantasy XIV tempted fans with the re-boot of A Realm Reborn, Ubisoft revealed plans to use a fan-favorite from the past to whet appetites for the forthcoming Splinter Cell, and Gearbox sprung a leak.
“Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn” Coming This Summer
Over the weekend, Square Enix announced plans to release A Realm Reborn later this summer. Meanwhile, the third phase of closed PC and PS3 beta will open in June. According to the developer, testers will gain access to “a wealth of new content, including the introduction of the city states of UI’dah and Limsa Lominsa.”
The renovation includes updated map and combat systems, and the game will reportedly run smoother and faster than its predecessor. There are even whispers of porting the game to the PS4. As of now, A Realm Reborn is expected to cost $29.99 for PC users and $39.99 for the PS3.
Borderlands 2‘s “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep” Coming in June
The title of Borderland 2‘s next DLC was leaked by Gearbox’s Anthony Burch, who quickly deleted a message from his Twitter profile after realizing his error. But of course, it was too late. The upcoming downloadable content for the game will be called “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.” Gearbox has promised that the fourth and final DLC title would be released by June, so expect more news in the future. The company has even hinted at more possible stories down the road.
In other news, Gearbox President, Randy Pitchford released a new set of SHiFT codes for the game. The latest (see below), which can be redeemed on the game’s main menu, unveils one golden key for use during gameplay. The keys open chests that contain gifts for gamers of special gear based on their current level.

Splinter Cell: BlackList “Spies Vs. Mercs” Gameplay Trailer Released
With Blacklist, Ubisoft will re-introduce the “Spies Vs. Mercs” multiplayer mode to the Splinter Cell series. Mercenaries have heavy armor, impressive weapons and gadgets like motion detectors and flying, exploding drones. The spies, meanwhile, rely on stealth and quickness to elude their enemies. No clunky armor slows them down. One hit from a spy and an unsuspecting mercenary can lose his life.
The updated mode is expanding from two-on-two to four-on-four. Watch the trailer below.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist will be released on August 20 for PS2, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.
