Former NFL Running Back Jahvid Best is Hoping to Run the 100-Meter Dash in the 2016 Olympics
Former Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best did not have a great NFL career. Not because he wasn’t talented enough, but because he suffered too many injuries.
Instead of wasting his athleticism, Best has decided to try and make it into the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

While playing in 22 games over three seasons for the Lions, Best developed issues stemming from multiple concussions. He probably won’t play in the NFL again, but he will use his running speed to try and qualify for the 100-Meter Dash in Rio.
The first thing Best needs to do is become a citizen of the island nation of St. Lucia. Best is from California, but his father was born and raised in St. Lucia, which will allow him to apply for citizenship.

Best will need to run a time of 10.16 seconds to qualify for the Olympics. It’s not impossible. He was a track star in high school, and he ran a 10.35 to win a California state championship. Qualifying is one thing, but Best needs to trim his 100-meter time to below 10 seconds if he hopes to medal in Rio. Best ran a 4.35-second 40-Yard Dash at the 2010 NFL Combine, tops for running backs that year.
“I never look too far into the future,” Best told St. Lucia News. “So as far as sub-10 talk, or expectations, I can’t say. I’m just focused on getting better every single day. I’m a hard worker and I know there’s room for improvement. How much room is to be determined, but whatever room there is I will find it.”
