Former Duke Basketball Players Form a ‘Brotherhood’ at Team USA Camp
The “Dukies” have formed a brotherhood like no other at this summer’s Team USA basketball camp.
Duke University and Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski have helped produce several NBA players, and the former Blue Devils’ bond at Team USA’s summer camp is strong. The men’s national team will conclude its training with a game against Argentina in Las Vegas this Friday at 9 p.m. EST.

“We all got a bond, you know, we always talk, see how each other are doing,” Utah Jazz forward Rodney Hood said in a video posted on the Duke Basketball Twitter account. “You look around, there is not any other school like that.”

Philadelphia 76ers center Jahlil Okafor echoed Hood’s statements about the special bond these players have. He said, “We’re all family and it goes farther than being on the court.”

The basketball camp includes six former Blue Devils: Hood, Okafor, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker, Miami Heat forward Justise Winslow and Los Angeles Lakers rookie Brandon Ingram. All of them were first-round draft picks, and five of the six—Hood was selected at No. 23—were lottery picks.
Irving will play for the men’s national team in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The other Dukies are on the program’s select team, a squad of elite young players. They boast more players than any other school on the select team.

“The brotherhood is branching out tremendously,” said Blue Devils special assistant coach Nolan Smith, who played for Duke from 2007-2011. “In USA basketball, the brotherhood is definitely here in full effect.”
