A reboot of the popular sci-fi mystery film Minority Report is being developed as a TV series for Fox. The 2002 Steven Spielberg movie, starring Tom Cruise and loosely based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, takes place in Washington D.C. during the year 2054.

In the film, a specialized police department unit called Precrime has the authority to arrest murderers before they commit their crimes, based on foreknowledge provided by individuals known as precogs. The story concerns an officer of the unit who is accused of a future murder.

The TV series, designed as a follow-up to the movie, is set 10 years after the Precrime unit has been disbanded. One of the three precogs, struggling to lead a normal life but haunted by visions of the future, discovers an opportunity to use his gift when he meets a female detective who is unable to let go of her past. The troubled duo join forces.

An interesting twist in the small screen adaptation is that the genders of the precog and the detective have been switched, making this a female-led program.

A joint project from Amblin Television, Paramount Television and 20th Century Fox Television, Minority Report for TV is being written by Max Borenstein, who is best known for writing Godzilla. Borenstein will also serve as an executive producer of the series, along with collaborators Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, who have teamed up on a number of successful TV projects, including Under the Dome.

The series is expected to premiere in the fall of 2015.
