‘Game of Thrones’ Coming to IMAX This Month
The hugely popular HBO series Game of Thrones is about to make history as the first TV show to screen in IMAX format. The final two episodes of Season 4 and the first teaser trailer for Season 5 will be shown for just one week at 150 theaters beginning Jan. 23.
Those two episodes of the fantasy drama, which aired on the cable network last year and are being digitally remastered in the IMAX format, are considered the most cinematic in the series. The episode entitled “The Watchers on the Wall,” with its awe-inspiring battle sequences, was actually compared to Peter Jackson’s iconic film franchise The Lord of the Rings. The other episode is the equally impressive one called “The Children,” which served as the Season 4 finale.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s award-winning series of novels, Game of Thrones is inspired by many events in European history, most obviously the long and bloody War of the Roses in 15th Century England. Centering on several noble families who fight for control of the mythical kingdom of Westeros, the TV series was created by writers/producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.
Ticketing information is available on the IMAX website.
