Anyone who says skateboarding isn’t a team sport obviously hasn’t seen EA Sports’ latest action sports-inspired offering. In this game, skaters are only as strong as the weakest member of their crew.
Skate 3 [EA Sports]
Release Date: May 11
Available for: Xbox 360, PS3
The latest edition of EA’s skateboarding game is all about one thing: building the best crew. Gamers team up to find out who can kill it on a skateboard—and who can’t. With enhanced graphics and design, Skate 3 delivers the style and look of the real action sports community—right to your game console.
Grind rails, kick flip off steps, and ollie your heart out on some of the sickest virtual skate parks ever created. Although nothing is quite like the real thing, Skate 3 is as close as it gets. With easy-to-pick-up-and-go controlling, this game is suitable for everyone, especially athletes who don’t skate at all.
STACK’s Favorite Feature: Skateboarding becomes the ultimate team sport with Skate 3’s new co-op mode, where teammates must complete challenges together to advance each other’s careers. No longer is skateboarding a solitary sport. A gamer’s entire crew must work in unison to beat rival crews and leave its mark on the city.
STACK’s Take: No, Skate 3 is not compatible with Tony Hawk’s Ride skateboard controller, but it’s still a pretty tight game. The graphics are sweet, and co-op mode allows friends to get involved rather than sitting on the couch awaiting their turn. All in all, not bad for a company that normally focuses on more traditional sports like football, basketball and hockey.
