Gatorade REPLAY and Windy City Anthem: “We Can Do It Now”
For athletes, there are moments we wish we could do over. But hopefully there are more we want to re-live—or watch on instant replay. Gatorade’s REPLAY program gives two high school teams the opportunity to reunite with their former comrades and re-play their toughest rival—but not before going through practices and an eight-week training regimen led by the Gatorade Sports Science Institute.
Season 3 of REPLAY features the basketball teams of Brother Rice High School and Bloom Township High School, both on the south side of Chicago, in a rematch of a controversial 2000 playoff game that was decided at the buzzer. Bloom Township won that game 42-40. “There were two devices, two sounds that signaled the end of that game,” recalled Brother Rice Crusaders coach Pat Richardson. “The shot did beat the starter’s pistol, but our contention was that it didn’t beat the buzzer, which was the real time.”
Leading up to the rematch, both Brother Rice and Bloom Township went through a grueling training program in preparation for the game. (Their full Season 3 workouts are available for download here.)
Check out the Season 3 teaser in the video below, where you see the final shot of the 2000 game. For the Season 3 rematch, both Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard were involved (Carlos Boozer also came to watch), scrimmaging with the two teams, and serving as their honorary coaches. The series will air starting Nov. 7 on Fox Sports Network (click for full schedule).
In support of the Season 3 teams, REPLAY released an exclusive song with Chicago artists Common, Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson and No I.D.—a rally for the REPLAY story, an anthem for the City of Chicago.
View the video below, in which the artists (and D-Wade) discuss the thought process behind the song, entitled “We Can Do it Now.” Download the song, available for free, through Nov. 7.
Experiencing buzzer-beater, bottom-of-the-ninth, career-defining moments in high school creates memories that last forever. A few lucky ones get a re-do with Gatorade REPLAY, but for most of us, now is the time to give our all.
