Get to the Net With the Tiger Deuce Lacrosse Play
Tiger Deuce is a great play to run when you need a quick solid look at the net, either with a time-and-room shot or a slip inside. A popular double pick play, it is typically run best out of a 1-4-1 set. The best part? It’s easy to learn and can be used in several ways. I break it down below.
Tiger Deuce
To set up the play, your best dodging midfielder (M1) should be up top with the ball. Your best shooters (M2 and A3) should be inside on the crease, and players who know how to set a solid pick and can handle the ball in tight situations (M3 and A1) should be on the wings. (In my experience, athletes who also play basketball tend to be the best at this position.) Finally, place your top ball-handling attackman (A2) at X behind the net.
It helps if the picks on the inside are set at an angle. This way, the shooters coming off the picks can come off and curl up toward the ball.
As M1 dodges, M3 and A1 come in and set picks for A3 and M2 to do a time-and-room shot.
The players who set the screens (M3 and A1) should always look to slip inside for a quick catch and shoot. That way, a scoring option will be open if the defensemen get confused and both jump out on the popping creaseman.
Attackmen A2 should cheat into the backside crease (opposite side of ball carrier), looking for a skip pass from either the dodging middie (M1) or the would-be shooter who just popped off the screen (M2 or A3).
